Meeting Agenda - March 21, 2005

7:00 - 8:15 Meeting
  1. Welcome
Sign-In Sheet & Door Prize Slips
  2. Beat Officer/Crime Prevention Officer
    • Temporary duties for Officer Upchurch - Officer Upchurch has been temporarily assigned to beat duty while getting re-certified for certain police duties. We have been assured by Captain Poteat that this is a temporary reassignment.
    • Jan/Feb/Mar Police Report - 911 Report/Police Calls: These have been posted to the web site. Things to note, increased number of warrants served and a high number of animal calls. Please continue to report loose animals, suspicious activity, and emergencies to 911.
  3. Upcoming Events:
    • April 2 & 9. 2005 - FREE Shredding Days - please help us promote this event, post a flyer at work, explore contacts with any media outlets, news, radio, etc.
    • May 21, 2005 - Street Sweep 2005 - similar to last year. We will meet at a common place, possibly join other neighborhoods, and make a sweep through our neighborhood to pick up trash. After this we will have gathering to celebrate our event. Jason Hibbets is considering coordinating a composte training session as part of this.
    • June 11 - Yard Sale: The community watch group will sponsor an ad in the N&O to have the yard sale and we ask that those who can post signs will do so at the major street intersections.
  4. Lineberry/Lake Wheeler/Sierra Update
    • Paving Lineberry - Lineberry Drive (unpaved) have been curbed and guttered on the north side and re-graveled. Paving should begin this Spring after a BellSouth utility is moved and a de-acceleration lane is completed at the intersection of Lake Wheeler and Lineberry. The paving will NOT start until the additional lane is prepared.
    • Nursing Home Update - The nursing home is moving right along and should start accepting residents (in phases) in the August/September time period. It will be called the Heritage of Town Lake.
    • BellSouth Fiber Optics - work along Lake Wheeler is due to BellSouth burying fiber.
    • Fire Hydrant Move - A fire Hydrant on the corner of Lake Wheeler and Sierra was moved (about 4 feet) within the last 2 weeks. Apparently buses and other vehicles kept hitting it as they were speeding by.
  5. Past Community Watch Concerns Updates
    • Speeding on Sierra - we had some discussion on this. We will research the past solutions that we came up with. We are looking for someone to coordinate a speed limit reduction petition for this. There was discussion on speed "humps" and getting the "Your Speed Is" sign on Sierra Drive.
    • Parking on Hill/Visibility/Safety Issue - this was a past issue that got dropped. We are looking for someone to lead this effort, research the past solutions and get the group to move forward on resolution. There was discussion on 3-way stops signs, NOT restricting any parking, noise bumps, caution lights, and speed limit reduction.
    • Speeding on Lawrence - Tom Fuller & Mary Bean already have signatures and are working on completing the 75% of signatures required for the speed limit reduction petition. Let's support them when the petition goes to council!
  6. New Business (Open Floor)
    • Call for Block/Street Captains - we are looking for captains to help establish a distribution system and information channels, please let us know if you can help.
    • Street Sweep Grant - Jason Hibbets is planning on submitting a Neighborhood Grant to request reflective safety vests, trash grabbers, and anything else that can be incorporated into the grant for the Street Sweep project.
    • Items to think about during your Spring walks - cars parked in front yards, driveways in yards, nuisance rental properties.
    • Reminder - don't forget we have welcome kits. We have delivered only 1 welcome kit so far to a new family in our watch area.
  7. Door Prize - Smoke Detector with battery. Don't forget to change your smoke detector batteries when you "Spring" ahead for daylight savings.
  8. Adjourn - Next Meeting June 20, 2005
