  1. Welcome - The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m.
    Tabitha welcomed new members/neighbors

  2. Crime Prevention
    • Raleigh Police Department - Officer Upchurch went over the 911 calls list and all looked good.
      • She stressed vehicle break-ins around holidays
      • leaving cars unattended during the winter (i.e. warming your car up; get an extra key and lock your doors while the car warms up)
      • making your house look lived in when you are away and personal safety during the holidays.
    • 911 Calls - Barbie introduced our beat officer. He also stressed safety during the holidays.
    • Chief of Police Harry Dolan - spoke on commending us on having a community watch program and how he was glad to be "back home." He stressed getting to know your neighbors or start a neighborhood network. Please call 911 if you see anything suspicious.
  3. Hot Topic - Animal Behavior, Rights & Laws
    • Lyn Buck, SPCA, spoke on animal ordinances/rights and laws. The correct procedures can be found in the City of Raleigh ordinance (also in the black notebook she brought for the group). She stressed that basically the owner must take responsibility of their dog/pet; Treat your dog like a member of the family and make them socially acceptable (walk 'em and play with 'em). Any problems, please call the Raleigh Animal Control office first. Yes, when walking your dog, you must "pick up" after them.
  4. Financial
    • Treasurer's Report - balance is $183.44. Most money is used to buy paper for the flyers and other miscellaneous community dues or expenses, including the website.
    • Food Lion Update & Award - postponed due to lack of participation. Look for additional announcements in the future. You can register now at: http://prr-watch.org/foodlion.php
  5. Recap Events
    • National Night Out on August 7, 2007 - NNO '07- was a success. We have visits from WRAL-TV; Sheriff Harrison & RPD. NNO 2008 is the first Tuesday in August. NNO 2009 is in September
    • Joined NBC17-Shred It as volunteers on October 6, 2007 Shredding Event - Next one in April 2008
  6. Events/Meeting/Updates
    • Captains for Defined Blocks - Block captains list is growing and it covers 420 houses. If you are interested in becoming a block captain, contact Tabitha or Jason. Block captains responsibilities were explained (and a listed on the site). Suggestion to send out a flyer for the list-serv.
    • Project Coordinators needed
      • Welcome Committee/Packs - Helen Best is the project coordinator for the Welcome packets
      • Promoting our Community through Real Estate - Jay Joiner discussed the pamphlet draft for promoting our community through Real Estate
    • Events Coordinators needed for 2008 - We need event coordinators for Community Yard Sale - June 2008 & NNO 2008
      • Street Sweep 2008 - May (Kathy Roche)
      • Community Yard Sale - June
      • National Night Out - September
  7. Additional Concerns/Questions
    • Kathy Roche thanked everyone for the participation in the Halloween Costumes for the Method Community.
    • Nancy and her husband thanked everyone for the participation in their Halloween Party.
    • Nancy also mentioned that Wake County is promoting a program for the under-insured and the un-insured for reduced prescription plan. Info is here: https://naco.advancerx.com/
